In May 2004, the American Bible Society program, Elementz of Life, launched 4the Streets magazine which was renamed Elementz of Life™ in February 2006. Volume #2, 3 and 4 have been released since 2006, impacting people on multiple levels. The magazines are pioneering the effort of reaching youth both inside and outside the church walls, which are being immensely influenced by the Hip Hop culture and also involved in high-risk behavior.
The publication is a positive, faith-based street-level magazine that seeks to meet the spiritual needs of our youth by providing empowering information; filled with hope and ways to address life issues. It brings together gang youth and other young people involved in street life to share life’s lessons, voice their pains, hopes, dreams, and successes; and exposes the truth of street & prison life and how Christ can make the difference. Through the power of poetry, stories, interviews, and art, they find a way to help prevent others from going through their same struggles.
Over the past several years, we have been working with various partners in the hip-hop industry, athletes, promoters, community leaders, and educators to reach young people in gangs, correctional facilities, juvenile detention centers as well as those from abusive environments. The program has been impacting the lives of many youth and many have given their lives to Christ as a result!
Volume #5 of Elementz of Life™, featuring an exclusive interview with Cheryl “Salt” Wray is available now.
