ELEMENTZ OF LIFE
USER’S GUIDE
The goal of the Elementz of Life User’s Guide is to help the Leader/Facilitator to encourage young people to develop a "love" relationship with Jesus Christ and ultimately live for Him. This Guide also serves as an opportunity for young people to sort out their thinking, set priorities, and address their own personal beliefs and values.
The process of searching and discovering who they are and what they stand for is a continuous cycle. Therefore, this Guide is impartial. It has been written so that both Christians and non-Christians can benefit and learn.
Each week a story will be examined that deals with life issues. The struggles, disappointments, triumphs, and victories of the writers are all part of the plan to lead young people to Christ. As each life issue is addressed, there may be times when you have to turn away from the printed agenda in order to further address an issue that is vital to the group.
Please remember, you are not teaching a lesson, but facilitating the process so that the Word of God may go forth. As Leader/Facilitator, you must understand the topic of the meeting and how it flows. Most sessions require a little preparation, but nothing too difficult. You should read through the curriculum and be prepared with any needed materials. You may find it helpful to have Bibles, pencils, pens, paper, markers and chart paper (if a blackboard is not available). Most lessons can be adapted for small and large groups.
As you prepare to use this Guide, please keep in mind that there are five key areas (all beginning with the letter "k") that will guide you through the lesson. They are as follows:
KICK IT OFF – This section is the motivational start-up to the lesson in order to focus and prepare students for the life issue of the day.
KEY VERSE – This section provides the focus Scripture which you should read at the beginning and end of each session. If possible, encourage students to learn the verse.
KEEP IT REAL – This section is where students can share their thoughts and learn from each other in a down-to-earth "Keep it Real" way. Each week questions are provided to stimulate thinking and stimulate truthful discussion.
KEEP THE FAITH – Students actually get to "exercise their faith" by doing an exercise in this section. The activity provided is designed to reinforce the lesson goals as well as help students develop and internalize what they have learned.
KEEP IT MOVIN – In order to keep young people moving in the right direction, this section gives a lasting thought/action for the week and thereafter. Each thought/action connects to the specific life issue and is designed to help students increase their faith and share their story with others. Students are encouraged to pray for others or share with others what they’ve learned. Most of all just "Keep it Movin."
"DO YOUR BEST TO WIN GOD'S APPROVAL AS A WORKER WHO DOESN’T
NEED TO BE ASHAMED AND WHO TEACHES ONLY THE TRUE MESSAGE."
2 Timothy 2.15, CEV
